Wrinkle reduction injections

  • Anti-wrinkle injections act on the neuromuscular junction to block ‘signals’ between nerves and muscles.
  • It can therefore induce a desirable “muscle-relaxing” effect which can:
    • Minimise the appearance of existing wrinkles
    • Prevent formation of new wrinkles
    • Reduce large square jaws
    • Control teeth grinding
    • Slim ‘bulky’ shoulders and calves
    • Minimise excessive sweating in body areas such as the armpits, the palms and the soles
    • Lift the brows (aka ‘chemical brow lift’)
    • Soften the appearance of lines and bands on the neck
  • The effects typically start to show in a matter of days and reach a peak at 2 weeks.
  • The effects continue for 3-6 months.
  • If administered by skilled and medically trained professionals, anti-wrinkle injections rarely causes serious complications; minor side-effects associated with injections such as redness and swelling could occur but are transient lasting.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used for a wide range of treatments

Forehead / frown lines / crow’s feet

Are you suitable?

Wrinkles form when facial muscles underneath the skin contract. They become more visible with age as the skin loses collagen and elastin and become more easily ‘creased’ by the contractions. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles and significantly reduce the muscles’ wrinkling effects.

Regular administration of anti-wrinkle injections will not only minimise existing wrinkles but also prevents permanent wrinkling of the skin from years of unrelaxed muscle contractions.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure itself takes only 5 minutes. It is one of the most popular ‘lunch-time’ cosmetic procedures.

When will I see results?

The effects typically start to show in a matter of days and reach a peak at 2 weeks.

When will things return to normal?

The injections will result in mild swelling and redness which usually resolves after 30 minutes. Applying ice can speed up the process. Normal activities can be resumed shortly after the procedure. However, strenuous activities such as going to the gym should ideally be avoided in the first 24 hours.

How long will the results last?

In general, anti-wrinkle toxins will continue to have effects for 3-6 months.

Eyebrow
lifts

Are you suitable?

Ageing can result in lowering of the brows. Higher brow positions are often desired because they are associated with a more energised look and an overall more youthful appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections can be injected into one or multiple muscles to help lift the brows. This combined with dermal fillers can help achieve several millimetres of lifting without any invasive procedures.

How long does the procedure take?

Chemical brow lift takes around 5 minutes only. When combined with dermal fillers, the whole procedure takes approximately 20 minutes.

In general, anti-wrinkle injections will continue to have effects for 3-6 months. Dermal fillers last between 6 – 12 months depending on the choice of filler.

Teeth grinding / jaw slimming

Are you suitable?

Teeth grinding happens at night and is usually involuntary (without conscious efforts). It is detrimental to the health of the teeth and over time can result in large square jaws which look obvious and unnatural.

Sometimes there is a genetic predisposition to large square jaws. Various studies have suggested that East Asians have genetically more hypertrophied masseter muscles [1][2][3]. Large square jaws in women particularly can leave a masculine impression.

Anti-wrinkle toxins can effectively weaken masseter muscles, disabling night time teeth grinding and over time reduce the size of the muscles, making the face look more slimmed and oval-shaped.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure is quick and take approximately 5 minutes only.

When will I see results?

The masseter muscles at baseline often feel ‘hard’ and ‘strong’. Following the injection, the muscles will feel ‘soft’ in about 2 weeks’ time. Visible reduction in jaw size can be noticed from 4 weeks and reach a peak around 6 weeks.

In general, anti-wrinkle toxins will continue to have effects for 3-6 months after which the jaw muscles will slowly regain strength and become more active again. Repeat treatments are recommended at this point and several regular repeat treatments (3 – 5) will help achieve optimal jaw slimming after which only maintenance therapy is usually needed.

Excessive sweating /
hyperhidrosis

Are you suitable?

Sweating is a normal physiological response to cool the body down when the body is under stress or ‘overheated’. However, excessive sweating or ‘hyperhidrosis’ can occur when sweating occurs in unexpected situations or in excess quantities. Excessive sweating/ ‘hyperhidrosis’ commonly affect the under arms, the hands and the soles of the feet.

Anti-wrinkle treatments can help deactivate the nerves which activate sweat glands and therefore result in up to 90% less sweating in affected areas.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes to complete for two areas affected by excessive sweating/hyperhidrosis.

When will I see results?

The ‘drying’ effects typically start to show in a matter of days and reach a peak at 2 weeks.

The ‘drying’ effects can be expected to last between 4 – 14 months in the case of excessive sweating in the under arms and in areas such as the palms and the soles, the effects are typically shorter and last around 6 months.

Leg and shoulder
slimming

Are you suitable?

Slimmed legs and shoulders usually look aesthetically pleasing and appear ‘elegant’. Muscle hypertrophy on the other hand can make legs and shoulders appear ‘bulky’. Anti-wrinkle toxins can effectively weaken the specific muscles to help them slim down over time.

How long does the procedure take?

Leg slimming or shoulder slimming with anti-wrinkle toxins takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

When will I see results?

The leg or shoulder muscles at baseline often feel ‘hard’ and ‘strong’. Following the injection, the muscles will feel ‘soft’ in about 2 weeks’ time. Visible reduction in muscle size can be noticed from 4 weeks and reach a peak around 6 weeks.

Peri-oral wrinkles / lip wrinkles / smoker’s lines

Are you suitable?

Vertical wrinkles can form around the lips as we age which are made more obvious by peri-oral movements, such as pouting, speaking, chewing, etc. They are especially common in smokers. They give away a person’s age easily.

Anti-wrinkle toxins can help smoothen the wrinkles in and around the lips, giving a more youthful look to the mouth/lip region in general.

For complete mouth/lip rejuvenation, we recommend this treatment in combination with several other collagen-stimulating or intense hydrating therapies also available at our clinic:

  • Lip filler
  • Peri-oral dermal filler
  • Peri-oral Profhilo
  • Peri-oral radiofrequency (RF)
  • Peri-oral microneedling
  • Peri-oral chemical peels
  • Peri-oral IPL or ‘laser’/light therapy

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure alone takes only 5 minutes.

Dermal fillers

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers are made up of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (a natural substance present in the skin) and are widely used for soft tissue augmentation in areas such as the lips, the nose, wrinkle lines and so on.
  • HA dermal fillers volumise and hydrate soft tissues.
  • The results are immediate.
  • Depending on the specific type of filler injected, the results can last up to 12 months or longer.
  • Filler administration requires both medical and aesthetic skills as inexperience can result in grieve complications such as blindness and tissue death as well as dissatisfying results such as lumpiness, over-correction and under-correction.

Dermal fillers can be used for a wide range of treatments

Non-surgical rhinoplasty (NSR) / “nose job”

Are you suitable?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty (NSR) is a popular injectable treatment which uses a specific type of dermal filler to re-shape the nose according to what the client wants. It is a non-invasive alternative to surgical ‘nose job’ and is associated with greater comfort and much less downtime. The results are reversible too in case a client decides to have the original shape back.

The nose is a highly vascularised and therefore dangerous area to  inject but if performed by highly experienced doctors, the procedure is very safe and gives very satisfying results.

The following are some of the common reasons people seek for NSR:

  • The nose does not appear ‘straight’ with bony projections or ‘bumps’ on the nose bridge
  • The nose tip is ‘droopy’ and the client would like some ‘lifting’
  • The shape of the nose tip is either too ‘round’ or too ‘sharp’
  • The nostrils are ‘wide’
  • The nose bridge is ‘flat’ and the client would like to add ‘height’ to the bridge

How long does the procedure take?

The actual procedure takes approximately 15 minutes.

When will things return to normal?

Most people can return to normal activities immediately. Mild swelling and redness associated with the injection are common but short-lasting. In some cases, bruising can occur but can usually be concealed with make-up.

How long will the results last?

NSR requires specific types of fillers to be injected; we offer several filler options and the results last between 12 – 18 months.

Tear trough filler / “under-eye” filler / filler for ‘dark eye circles’

Are you suitable?

There are several reasons why people are affected by dark eye circles. Often there is a genetic component predisposing people to pigmented/dark skin or thin skin under the eyes. With age or unhealthy lifestyle factors, such as working long hours in front of a computer screen, excess sun exposure on holiday, smoking and drinking, the skin under the eyes gradually lose collagen and elastin and become more pigmented or/and even thinner, failing to conceal and making the underlying structures, such as the muscles and blood vessels, appear as a dark shadow. Often, people will also see a slight ‘dent’ or ‘gap’ in the tear trough, making them appear ‘tired’.

The under-eye area is delicate and injecting in this area requires extensive medical knowledge and experience to ensure safety and good results.

Injecting dermal fillers in this area will achieve the following effects:

  • Make the under-eye look ‘fuller’ and more youthful
  • Conceal dark eye circles
  • Give an overall more ‘energised’ eye appearance

1-2 treatments may be required to achieve the optimal results.

Only one specific type of filler is FDA-approved for injecting under the eyes and this is Teosyal Redensity II. This specific type of filler lasts between 6-9 months.

Lip filler / lip enhancement

Are you suitable?

People decide to enhance or augment their lips for various reasons. Some people consider fuller and more defined lips attractive. Some people have naturally asymmetrical lip shapes which they want to correct. Some people want to add hydration to their lips and some people want to have a smoother/less wrinkly lip appearance.

Lip fillers not only can volumise and define the lips, but also can hydrate the lips and help conceal lip wrinkles, giving the lips a younger appearance.

How long does the procedure take?

Lip fillers typically take 10-20 minutes to perform.

Is lip filler painful?

Many people imagine lip fillers to be very painful due to how sensitive the lips feel. In reality however, people rate lip filler-associated pain very differently. While some do find it painful, many find it largely tolerable. Several measures are usually taken to minimise any discomfort including applying numbing cream prior to the procedure and using lip filler products that contain local anaesthetic/lidocaine.

How many mls do I need?

People come cross debate over how many mls of lip filler is enough? 0.5ml, 1ml or 2mls? There is no standard answer. The amount of product required to achieve the ideal lip appearance can vary depending on the state of the natural lips and the expected outcome of the lip filler.

Experienced doctors who have appreciation for the beauty of lips can usually advise the amount of lip filler required for each client in order to achieve the desired results. The doctor will usually also advise on how many sessions may be needed to deliver the final result. This is why a consultation with an experienced doctor is a crucial part of obtaining an ideal lip appearance.

When can you return to normal activities?

Lip swelling is common after lip fillers and usually settle within a few days. The procedure can sometimes cause bruising to the lips which usually recover within one week. The lips can feel sensitive for several days after the procedure and during this period, activities which can increase swelling should ideally be avoided, for example, forceful kissing, eating spicy food and applying hot steam to the face.

How long will the results last?

Lip filler can be very long-lasting. Depending on the choice of the filler product and one’s own metabolism, lip fillers can last between 6 – 18 months.

Skin boosters/new-generation injectable skincare

The skin serves as a barrier to keep away environmental hazards, such as bacteria, viruses, dust, radiation, etc. It undergoes a cycle of renewal constantly and as a result accumulates several ‘dead’ skin cell layers superficially. The superficial layers of the skin are protective but on the other hand they also largely prevent topical skincare products from being effectively absorbed. Injectable skincare overcomes this by delivering active ingredients directly to deeper skin layers maximising the absorption and effectiveness.

Profhilo

Key points

  • This uniquely-formulated hyaluronic acid injection is a powerful anti-ageing tool. It provides instant hydration to the skin and kickstarts a collagen-producing process in the following weeks.
  • End results are more hydrated and plumped skin, smoother wrinkles and tighter skin.
  • A course of treatment consists of 2 injections, 4 weeks apart.
  • Areas of treatment include the face, the neck and the hands.

Are you suitable?

Profhilo, consisting of long-lasting hyaluronic acid, when injected into the deep dermal layer of the skin, provides the skin with intense hydration and stimulates the skin’s natural ability to produce collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin will become more hydrated, plumped and firm.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure is preceded by the application of numbing cream for 5-10 minutes. The injection itself takes approximately 10 minutes. Altogether the procedure shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

When will things return to normal?

The injections are precisely placed in the deep dermis of the skin and will likely result in some transient ‘bumps’ which will disappear as the active ingredients dissipate across the surrounding areas of the skin in 1-2 days. The unique BAP injection technique ensures that minimal trauma will be caused to the skin, therefore allowing immediate return to normal activities in most cases.

How long will the results last? How often should I top up?

A course of two injections are usually advised, 4 weeks apart. The hydrating and lifting effects from Profhilo are long-lasting as the product works to promote the natural health and quality of the skin. A top-up is recommended every 6 months to maintain optimal skin quality.

Fat-dissolving injections – Aqualyx

  • Aqualyx is one of the most popular and effective fat dissolving procedures that can help people get rid of stubborn fat in areas that are commonly unaffected by overall body weight loss, such as the lower third of the face, the double chin, the thighs, etc.
  • Aqualyx is made up from natural plant-based compounds and is scientifically developed to break down excess body fat.
  • By dissolving the membranes of fat cells in the injected area, Aqualyx causes fat cells to become unstable and break and finally eliminated by the body’s excretory systems.
  • Aqualyx is typically injected into the following areas for local fat removal:
    • Face: double chin, lower 1/3 of the face.
    • Body: upper arms, armpits, waist, abdomen, buttocks, inner thighs.

Is Aqualyx safe?

Aqualyx is CE marked which means it has been approved as a safe product to use in the EU.

Are you suitable?

If you have exercise-resistant, diet-resistant fat anywhere in your body (except for around the eyes), you may be a candidate for Aqualyx fat dissolving. Our doctor needs to first see you and measure the amount of fat and then make recommendations accordingly.

How many sessions might I need?

1 – 8 sessions may be required depending on the area of the body/face, the amount of fat present and the individual’s own metabolism. In some cases, visible results can be seen after just one session.

How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the areas of the body/face treated, the procedure can take from 10 minutes up to 30 minutes.

When can you return to normal activities?

Aqualyx injections will cause immediate tissue swelling due to the amount of product being injected (starting from 8mls). Any drastic swelling will subside in 2-3 hours following which mild to moderate swelling can persist up to 1 week. Daily massage is recommended to help the body’s excretory systems eliminate the dissolved fat cells. While the treated area is very swollen, we advise against strenuous exercise and extreme temperatures, e.g. sauna. Once the swelling starts to improve, normal activities can be safely resumed.

When will I see results? When can I have my top-up treatment?

Different areas of the body/face will require different numbers of sessions. The results are most visible 6 weeks following the completion of the required sessions recommended by the doctors. Between each treatment, we recommend a 4-6-week gap.

How long will the results last?

Fortunately, the body is very slow at generating new fat cells, meaning once fat cells are removed, the results are as good as permanent. However, unhealthy lifestyles will push the body to generate more fat cells and deposit more fat in them, therefore we recommend maintaining a healthy weight following the procedure.
